Timeless Tiles, Artful Ambiance
The Process
Six stages, all by hand. From clay to finished tile, in Fez and Iznik. Tap a step or watch it play.
Raw clay from the hillsides around Fez is kneaded, then pressed into wooden moulds by hand. Each tile starts as a single shape.
Shaped tiles are placed side by side and left to dry in the Moroccan sun. Slow drying gives each tile its strength before firing.
Once dry, each tile is flattened and finished by hand on a wooden bench. The maker's touch leaves the variations that define Zellige.
Mineral pigments are applied tile by tile. This is where colour, tone, and the semi-transparent depth of Zellige come from.
Tiles are stacked into wood-fired kilns. The glaze melts and vitrifies, fusing colour and clay. Temperature variation gives Zellige its tonal range.
Inspected, sorted by tone, packed for the UK. From Fez and Iznik to your project, every tile carries the mark of the hand that made it.
